South By So What?: organizations (2002)
Organizations:
Here's some information about organizations and businesses that are
participating in some fashion, whether by sponsoring music,
just throwing a party, or some other kind of way. Basically,
everything that doesn't fit anywhere else.
- Bill Groll's
austinamericana.com
includes lots of information on local music and venues,
as well as CD reviews and some nifty pictures. Bill also offers
a weekly gig list via email (and no spam!). Also see the listings
for his showcase at C. T. Pepper's
on Satuday, and his listing under friends.
- The Hideout is a Chicago
club that features everything from rock music (one local magazine
named them Best Rock Club) to fashion shows and fundraisers. They
generally have some kind of get-together.
- Miles Of Music record store.
They have a cool selection of Americana, rock, and other unclassifiable
stuff. I've ordered from them in the past and gotten excellent service.
Although they're not doing anything publically, you'll see their
folks around the various shows.
- John Conquest's Third Coast Music
-- a monthly publication featuring music reviews and criticism by
various curmudgeons who like their music real. He's carried
the ball trying to get people to publicize their shows for
several years. (In fact, all the information about
previous years' events
is cribbed directly from past issues of 3CM).
- Twangfest
will be hosting showcases on
Thursday
from 1-5pm at
Jovita's
and again on
Friday
from 1-5pm at the
Texas Café.
They are a non-profit dedicated to promoting great American music (in
whatever form that means to you :-) ).
